Abstract

Since time immemorial, medicinal plants have been in use for the treatment of man and animal diseases . In 1978, the World Health Organisation (WHO) emphasized the importance of scientific research into herbal medicine. This paper reviewed the folk medical value of Spondias mombin with the correlated research findings on the uses of Spondias mombin. Most folkloric uses have been scientifically proven in the majority of the regions where those beliefs are based.

The plant was described in its natural habitat, and its local uses, including the uses of its parts, were mentioned. We examined Spondias mombin's ethnomedicinal uses, biological activities, and pharmacological activities.
